This is a guide to the independent food vendors, restaurants and cafés that are continuing to offer takeaway or delivery throughout lockdown.

The guide has had a total facelift since the last update, with new places added, new categories and new images. I’ve featured as many places as I can, so if I’ve missed any, let me know and I’ll update the lists at the bottom of each section.

Asian

Akasaka

Akasaka is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Milton Keynes. I absolutely love the takoyaki (octopus dumplings) and nasu dengaku (miso aubergine), and their sushi offering is brilliant. Akasaka Central Milton Keynes is currently for delivery and takeaway and delivery within 3 miles of CMK. Visit www.akasaka.co.uk to order and for the most up to date opening hours.

Café Sen

We discovered this little gem of a Vietnamese café near Bletchley during the last lockdown and it’s now a firm favourite. I recommend the special Banh Mi or the noodle soups and salads. Café Sen is now offering delivery within a certain radius (fees and minimum order apply) as well as takeaway. It’s open weekdays and Saturdays, 9:30am – 2:30pm. Pre-order online via www.cafesen.uk.

Burgers & Wings

Byte MK

Byte MK is a new addition to the growing gourmet burger scene in MK and it’s an excellent offering. It’s based next to MK Bowl, opposite Furzton, but don’t let appearences put you off. These burgers mean business! It’s a ‘build your own’ concept so you can choose your patty, bun and fillings to make it your own. I recommend the Wagyu beef burger with cheese and bacon. Oh, and try the wings too, they’re fab. At the moment, delivery is only available via GrabNow, but you can also order for collection.

We had a no-takeaway January, and celebrated keeping to it on 1st Feb with a burger from Five Akhis after seeing you promote them! We both had a Jucy Lucy (I couldn’t quite bring myself to order a Big Akhi because… strawberry jam? In a burger?) with fries (I had “rustic” – basically means skin-on; Lucie had sweet potato). We had the jalapeno bites and chicken strips as sides, and topped it off with a milkshake. All very tasty, and the portions of fries were very generous. It worked out a little more expensive than a similar order from what I assume to be their more mainstream namesake (though it just occurred to me that they don’t offer sides).

It’s definitely on the mental list for future takeaway nights!

Cafe Sen was pretty good but it was in such a hidden spot! I had the crispy pork vermicelli noodles and pho off the back of straight after reading your post – yummy treat indeed. Saf’s Kitchen in Wolverton, with The Biergarten just next to it, and Pin Petch are also very notable mentions.

It is, but sometimes they are the best! And it is the nature of the cafe as they serve the offices and industrial park. Rents in MK are so high! Saf’s Kitchen is great (though she caters from home, doesn’t have a permanent base!) and Pin Petch is great too I agree 🙂
