Sophie etc is a Milton Keynes food and lifestyle blog that helps you discover great independent eats and adventures in MK and Buckinghamshire.
This is your guide to eating and exploring Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. My blog posts make it easier for you to find and support local businesses and therefore make the most of Milton Keynes.
Founded in 2012, Sophie etc formerly featured my fashion and beauty finds. However, having spent three years in Birmingham at university surrounded by a vibrant and growing independent food scene, I returned to Milton Keynes in 2016 determined to uncover a similar scene. I wanted to show people that there was more to MK than Concrete Cows, chain restaurants and roundabouts.
On my blog, you will find my MK food guides (your go-to guide for independent food and drink!) local guides to Milton Keynes, honest restaurant reviews, plenty of independent business inspiration, events and recipes that I love.
I also host Sophie’s Supper Club, which is a social dining event held in collaboration with independent restaurants. It showcases the best of MK’s food scene and gives my community a really fun evening. Events have been hosted at Olé Tapas Bar, The Brasserie at Milton Keynes College and Twenty Out of Ten.
You can join the community of local food lovers and explorers on Facebook. Eat & Explore MK is a place for YOU to share your reviews, recommendations and recipes.
When I’m not blogging, you’ll probably find me at a local street food event, planning my next adventure, scrolling interior accounts on Instagram or doing my actual day job as a social media officer for a local museum.
Come and say hello on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. And if you want more – sign up to my monthly newsletter to get loads of exclusive content every month including the latest MK news, independent business Q&As and more.
Sophie was a joy to work with. We collaborated with Sophie to co-host a supper club for press and bloggers and she was enormously helpful during the planning process. A champion of local business, Sophie recommended a number of lovely local companies and brands that we were able to bring into the final event, helping us highlight all that Milton Keynes has to offer and giving the evening a really authentic feel. The final event was a huge success, and Sophie produced beautiful social media content and a brilliant blog post to round the partnership off. We definitely hope to work with Sophie again in the future!
We had breakfast at The Greedy Italian last weekend after being influenced by @sophie_etc. I haven’t lived in Milton Keynes for 9 years and as much as I’ll stick up for it, I left because life there in 2010 was extremely dull. I’ve followed Sophie with such joy as she discovers and champions new independent businesses in MK. It’s so nice to see the city develop a personality (finally), and I really hope locals continue to support places like this.
After following a recommendation from Sophie etc via her awesome blog, we decided to have a crack at Made in Sud pizza for lunch. We had the N’duja Pizza and it was EPIC!
Thank you so much for your afternoon tea recommendations! I recently went for afternoon tea at Woburn Coffee House and it was amazing! I loved it and I would never have known about it if it wasn’t for you, so thank you.
There have been so many amazing recommendations we’ve found through your blog and Instagram. I’ve been living in Milton Keynes for three years and there’s so much we hadn’t explored but now we have an extra long list of places to go and things to see! Eat Street MK would definitely be our favourite find!
Since moving to MK a few months ago, we’ve been using your What’s On Guide as a bible! Through that and your Instagram, we’ve discovered so many places and events, but I think our favourite has to be Bar Bar Black Sheep as it’s only a short walk away from where we live, and alongside doing amazing toasties, has so many things going on that we can’t wait to explore and do.
We had the pleasure to celebrate Sophie’s first supper club. We were so happy that she chose Ole Tapas Bar! It was a fantastic night with a buzzing atmosphere, lovely people, great food and amazing live music. We want to thank Sophie for her hard work in showcasing the best independent restaurants in Milton Keynes as well as connecting people with local businesses.
Sophie has been a long-term supporter of both Saf’s Kitchen and other independent street food vendors in Milton Keynes. As independent businesses, we often rely on word of mouth and social media to get our message out there. Sophie consistently recommends us to her followers which has a direct impact on our business and brand awareness in Milton Keynes and beyond!
Sophie hosted one of her supper clubs with us at The Brasserie. We really enjoyed having Sophie and her guests dine with us. We work with a lot of people and some make the whole process more enjoyable than others – Sophie was very enjoyable to work with! The guests were lovely and the fact that she sold out made a huge impact to our financial targets. We hope to see Sophie’s Supper Club back again soon!
Informative, fun and relevant. A go-to source for all the goings-on in and around our much underrated and undiscovered ‘city of dreams’ Milton Keynes.
have been a keen follower of Sophie for a while and her postings on the independent restaurants/cafes/coffee shop in MK really is very helpful. I’ve been to a few that she’s suggested and loved it.
As a small independent business owner myself, I finally had the courage to send Sophie some food from my takeaway. I have been contemplating for a while – should I or shouldn’t I, with the understanding that Sophie has tried so many great foods out there. but it’s the best decision I’ve made! Reading her review that she enjoyed all the meal thoroughly really boosted my confidence.
Since Sophie posted her review on her Instagram and Facebook Group “Eat & Explore MK”, I have been inundated with a flock of new followers and messages of people interested to know more on my Takeaway!! I can’t thank Sophie enough for all she does – for her love of food and for her ongoing support for small independent business owners, especially during this unprecedented time. [Lockdown]
Sophie’s review definitely a great influence for my small business in getting more exposure specifically in the MK Foodie world – the right audience for my takeaway – Thank you so much, Sophie! You are amazing in what you do and you should be very proud of what you’ve achieved so far. I have all the faith that you’ll go far and much bigger than you already are now!
Sophie has created not only a fantastic and easy to follow food guide with the best finds for each category, she also managed to create a community of food lovers inspiring each other and it’s a fantastic place to be part of.
If you want to expand your knowledge of MK eateries and food companies then this is the place to be! Sophie gives honest opinions, supports local businesses which has inspired me to look further than the typical high street brands. This has been a great source of knowledge sharing and support during lockdown. Here’s to the other side when we can eat out too!
Sophie is very supportive of local and independent businesses. She’s been amazing at promoting these businesses, including ours Good Times Cafe UK, and creating a platform during these tricky times. Her newsletter is also well worth the read to keep you updated on what’s going on too. Sophie is savvy on social media and always comes across very well and positively. She remains professional. Her photographs are vibrant and well shot which adds even more class to her content.
I have really enjoyed the recommendation to local independent businesses. I have found some fantastic suppliers for special occasions, midweek treats or cheeky takeaways. They have all been brilliant and I have been amazed at how people have adapted and what they all give back to their community. Sophie has really supported this and opened the community up to all.
I’ve been following Sophie’s blog for a few months now and have benefited from some fantastic recommendations on local independent businesses – none have disappointed! I joined the Eat & Explore group on Facebook only a week ago and have already had some great inspiration for both local suppliers and home cooking. We also attended a Supper Club which was a fantastic night – great food and met some lovely people.
I found out about Sophie etc, from seeing lots of local street food vendors and independent businesses posting about her on social media. After doing some research, I could see how passionate Sophie was about working with local businesses and building a community for places to explore and eat and thought it would be amazing to be featured on one of her blogs.
Due to lockdown, I decided to do a quarantine takeaway as I had to adjust to the guidelines of social distancing (I’m usually a street food vendor). I reached out to Sophie to ask if she’d be willing to review and share my food on her stories, which she agreed to.
Sophie was very thorough in her critique and not only did she post my food, but she offered me some amazing constructive feedback, on what she thought could be adapted with my menu to be more relevant to the type of food I offer and my target audience. Sophie also featured me on her ‘Lockdown Takeaways’ blog, which has increased my following tremendously and opened the door to new customers and brand recognition and the general response from her following has been amazing!
Sophie is always friendly and professional and I would 100 percent recommend investing in her services to any growing business/company out there, who is looking to increase their brand recognition.
I look forward to continue working with her on many other projects.
A few weeks ago Sophie was kind enough to include me in her blog post, “The Independent Milton Keynes Guide to Celebrating at Home During Lockdown.”
Almost instantaneously I saw an increase in the number of people following me on Instagram. This in itself was great as it meant more people were hearing about my little Floristry business. I wasn’t prepared for how many of those new followers would then message me saying, “Hi, I’ve just seen Sophie’s post about your flowers, can I order?”
I’d heard about the power ‘influencers’ can have on a small business, but I believe that what sets Sophie apart from the rest is that her audience are thoroughly engaged with her content. They are all local Milton Keynes people, and when you have a small business that can only serve the local area, this is what you want and need.
I was so grateful to Sophie so I sent her a ‘Thank You’ bouquet, which I really didn’t expect her to post about, but out of the kindness of her heart, she did! This in turn meant even more new followers and new customers for me.
I’ve since had lots of conversations with people that follow Sophie, and their overriding message is a grateful one. Grateful that because of Sophie’s content, they are able to help support small local businesses and know where to find them.
Thank you Sophie!
