AD – This post is part of a paid partnership with Eat Your Heart Out.
There are arguably few things greater in this life than a great sandwich. However, if you’re anything like me, I’m not really a fan of a basic sandwich… It has to be chunky, packed with filling and a little more exciting than a bit of cheese in plain bread. Perhaps I was scarred by eating sandwiches every day for a packed lunch at school… Anyway, I digress! If you’re after a solid sandwich in Milton Keynes, Eat Your Heart Out Café in Willen is a pretty good place to start.
In this blog post, I am going to introduce you to this lovely family run business and give you the low down on their lunch offering!
About Eat Your Heart Out
Eat Your Heart Out is a family-run business that was established in 1992. It’s founder, Neil, was an original ‘sandwich man,’ operating a daily sandwich round in offices and business parks in Milton Keynes that have no doubt become familiar to many. Today, it offers high-quality catering service and sandwich deliveries to the Milton Keynes area as well as maintaining a café presence in Willen Local Centre.
Neil retired in September 2019, and the business was acquired by Carol and Tony, a husband and wife team who had been loyal customers of Eat Your Heart Out until they became the proud owners of it. Today the sandwich shop is still run by the original dedicated EYHO team who still work there.
‘Homemade and Handmade’
As with so many independent and family-run businesses, love and passion pour into the creation of every product. Carol emphasises that at the heart of their business is the ethos ‘homemade and handmade.’ Yep, that includes their delicious sandwich fillings!
Its bright and bold branding makes Eat Your Heart Out a welcoming spot for a lunch break. When I popped in to collect our lunch, there were several regulars choosing their baguette from the plethora of fillings available, including vegan and vegetarian options. It feels like part of the community.
Speaking of serving the community, EYHO also supplies the sandwiches and baguettes as part of the Cafe2U franchise. They operate two vans in Milton Keynes who do the rounds of local offices, but during lockdown were visiting residential addresses to deliver people’s caffeine fix!
Lunch from Eat Your Heart Out
Working from home during lockdown has had its advantages! Dan and I have finally been able to try so many great places that are open during the week, which includes Eat Your Heart Out. We were treated to a little lunchtime feast to share the verdict on their homemade sandwiches and sample the delights on their new individual buffet platters.
The individual buffet options are designed for corporate clients to received individually packaged buffet lunches for meetings/training sessions as these begin to take place again in line with government guidelines.
They are quite literally buffets on a platter with plenty of sandwiches to keep you going, plus other savoury items. You can customise these platters to suit you and your employees.
We also had to try one of Eat Your Heart Out’s baguettes. Dan opted for Tuna Mayo (£3.90) which is the one filling I don’t actually like! However, it went down a treat.
I decided to go for the crispy bacon and brie baguette (£4.30) – one of my ultimate favourite flavour combos and was not disappointed. Crisp bacon with soft, creamy brie. Delish.
You can choose whether you’d like wholemeal or white bread. The baguettes are baked fresh on-site every day and are absolutely packed with filling. They are also HUGE – we cut ours in half and enjoyed them over two days of lunches – the baguettes are great value for money!
Eat Your Heart Out during COVID-19
As with many cafés and restaurants, there are of course some changes to the way that Eat Your Heart Out is currently operating.
EYHO is still delivering corporate buffets and lunches, but is also delivering sandwiches to residential addresses.
If you want to collect your food, a maximum of three people are allowed inside the shop at anytime and there is outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your coffee or lunch outside.
And more good news! Eat Your Heart Out will be taking part in the government’s Eat Out to Help Out Scheme from 3rd August.
If you’re looking for a lovely, family-run lunch stop, look no further than Eat Your Heart Out. The service is warm and friendly with good, honest, homemade food.
Eat Your Heart Out is open Monday – Friday, 8am – 2:30pm. To take a look at the menu and find out more, visit www.eatyourheartout.uk.com.
