LATEST UPDATE: Thursday 18th June 2020
You might have already noticed, but I am operation support small business at the moment! I have many friends who own businesses in Milton Keynes and it’s a tough time for everyone, particularly the little guys. My MK food guide to food businesses and vendors offering takeaway and delivery services in Milton Keynes has gone down an absolute storm which I think proves that there is a real appetite (heh) for supporting local right now.
In this blog post, you’ll find a comprehensive list of local businesses shops and producers that remain open in some (or full) capacity where you can buy food and drink. If you are anything like me, you probably don’t enjoy going to the supermarket much right now, so hopefully this guide will help you find some alternatives.
Please be aware that I’ve not tried everywhere that I’ve included in this post. I usually only feature places in my MK Food Guides that I have been to myself, but due to the current situation, I think it’s important to give you guys as much choice as possible. I’ve put an asterisk (*) by the services that I’ve tried or used before.
Guide to Lockdown Shopping in MK
Groceries & Pantry items
Fruit & Vegetables
AB Fruits, Bedford
AB Fruits is a family-run fresh produce supplier in Bedford. Run by two brothers, Giovanni and Sabino, it was founded in 1982 by their father. They usually supply the catering industry (MK customers include The Brasserie at Milton Keynes College) but due to mass restaurant closure, AB Fruits had to diversify to offer home delivery. You can purchase individual items or pre-picked produce boxes which are great for vulnerable people who might not be able to get to a supermarket. The ‘Fruit & Veg Box’ is great value at £24.95. Delivery to areas outside of Bedford is £3.95 but it’s certainly worth it for the quality.
