Everything you need to know about Local Market MK

AD – This is a paid partnership with Local Market MK.

Over the past few years, Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas have boomed with local food and drink producers. Gone are the days where artisan brands are exclusively sold at farmers markets – they’re hitting the mainstream and making their way into the weekly shop. Throughout lockdown, the independent businesses were always there for us. They adapted their services, products and sometimes had to pivot their entire business in order to ensure they survived and kept their loyal customers fed with their favourite treats.

In my opinion, you don’t  get a better choice or quality of products than from local, independent producers. Shopping with local producers has never been easier, with an abundance of local markets taking place across Milton Keynes, but what if it was even easier than waiting for the monthly markets to roll around?

Today I am thrilled to introduce you to a brand new business that will make shopping local even easier! Local Market MK is the brainchild of Amy Alt, owner of catering company, Lucky Spoon. It launches on the 14th November and I’ve got the full, exclusive lowdown in this post!

What is Local Market MK?

Local Market MK is an online shop bringing together the best artisan food and drink products, sourced as locally to Milton Keynes as possible. The aim is to help people discover and purchase delicious local products from the comfort of their living room. In this way, they help suppliers reach more customers and help their customers support the local economy.

“Even I’ve been surprised by the amazing quality of locally produced food and drink! We can’t wait to share them with a wider audience.”

You may recognise Amy from the brilliant Lucky Spoon. Local Market MK is truly a business born out of lockdown. Lucky Spoon’s main clientele is businesses who order for events and meetings, but with no one in the office, it’s been difficult to make it work. New Day Café has also had to close. Amy’s been working super hard to bring delicious food to the people of Milton Keynes (The lovely Rachel in my Facebook Group has been ordering weekly breakfast pots!)

This led to her convincing her partner, Jack, to join forces and embark on her idea for an online shop, exclusively selling products from producers in and around Milton Keynes.

Local Market MK will manage all the orders. They will hold the stock and fulfil the orders by delivering locally. Discovering local brands and buying from them has never been simpler!

What products can I buy?

I’ve seen the supplier list so far and ~ spoiler alert ~ it’s good. I’m truly excited for this platform to launch, because some of my favourite brands are already on there, and there’s more to come.

So far, there are around thirty suppliers ready for launch on the 14th. This includes the Fruity Farmer, Linny Lane, Wharf Distillery, Really Good Sausages & Burgers, Bucks Star Beer and Labour of Love Preserves to name just a few! You’ll also be able to stock up on local bread, cheeses and cakes. Amy told me she is particularly excited about the N’duja they will be stocking…

Hampers will also be available to buy so this launch really couldn’t have come at a better time with Christmas on the way!

Mama Reyna's Salsa Verde, Chiltern Charcuterie N'duja and Monty Pieman pies.

Why shop local?

I am sure I don’t need to harp on about the benefits of shopping with independent businesses any more than I do. For me, shopping with local brands is about feeling a sense of community, helping the local economy and getting my hands on amazing products I just can’t find anywhere else. We really are spoilt for choice in Milton Keynes when it comes to local producers. We also benefit from producers in Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire who also bring something different to the table!

“Shopping local is a fantastic way to feel more of a connection to your community and sharing your favourite new finds with friends is an easy way to help the local economy.”
