AD – This is a paid partnership with MK Eats.
During lockdown, so many independent food vendors adapted to accommodate the growing appetite for home delivery and takeaway services. Whilst the chain restaurants were closed, the indies definitely closed the gap and attracted both new and old customers. This has resulted in a mega shift in Milton Keynes for sure – suddenly people’s eyes have been opened to the plethora of food vendors available on their doorstep. Delivery apps have a place in this shift and put these vendors in front of consumers; but like me, I’m sure you’ve seen articles that have criticised the likes of Deliveroo and Just Eat for the huge commission they charge indies (up to 30%!). As a customer, using delivery apps is great because you have a lot of choices at your fingertips, but they are not the most supportive way to order from local independents.
All that is set to change with the launch of MK Eats, a new, local Just Eat-style food ordering app, specifically for people in Milton Keynes. It’s part of a wider franchise called Local Eats which has proved to be so popular in some towns and cities that it’s overtaken ‘The Big Three’ thanks to its low commission rates and genuine support for local businesses.
In this blog post, you can find out more about MK Eats and discover some of the vendors that will be available for you to order from.
What is MK Eats?
MK Eats is a new, local food ordering app, specifically for Milton Keynes. It will allow you to order from your favourite independent food and drink vendors from all over MK, safe in the knowledge that it supports local businesses! They have over 40 independent vendors already signed up, which is super exciting. MK Eats is available to download now on iOS and Android.
The low commission rates and low joining fees mean that MK Eats is great for established restaurants and takeaways, but can also be a viable option for some smaller food businesses who would have previously been put off by the higher rates charged by the other companies. In other areas, restaurants and takeaways often offer exclusive discounts to customers who are ordering through their Local Eats app, because of the money that they are saving on commission.
What makes MK Eats different?
The single biggest difference is that the owners, Andy Roberts and James Cann are local. This means they can get out and about to visit the businesses that are partnering with them, offering them a level of customer service that the national food ordering companies cannot compete with.
The national food ordering apps spend a lot of time advertising and promoting the other national restaurant and takeaway chains that they have listed with them. They put much less effort into promoting the smaller independent businesses. MK Eats is committed to promoting all of the businesses that are listed with them. They genuinely want independents in Milton Keynes to flourish, and want to get as many local people to discover what is available to them locally.
If you are an independent food vendor in Milton Keynes, MK Eats would love to hear from you and get you on board! You can get in touch with them by email firstname.lastname@example.org

Ah, now to my favourite part of this blog post… the food guide! This is an exclusive food guide for you to find out more about just some of the independent vendors that are available on MK Eats. The app makes it super easy to see which independents deliver and those that offer collection only, so make sure you double check before you order.

Anatolia is a really great Turkish restaurant based in Stony Stratford. Their meat platters takeaway really well and are a winner for a big, family-friendly dinner. I love the meze platters too, always a must-have with a Turkish. You’ll be able to find them on MK Eats for takeaway.
The Codebreaker’s Café
The Codebreaker’s Café is a newbie to the independent food scene having only been open for a few months but already they are making waves with their delicious food and warm, friendly service. Their delivery service is nothing short of genius, with the burgers arriving totally in one piece thanks to a nifty box (Yes, the burger pictured below was delivered!) The burgers are awesome (I’d recommend the Truckstop burger) and they have nailed the chips.
Five Ahki’s opened in 2020 and serves up some of the best burgers in Milton Keynes. They are based in Peartree Bridge and you’ll find burgers, wings and shakes on their menu. I’d recommend the burgers wholeheartedly – the Juicy Lucy is great. The wings are good too!
Fratelli’s Bar & Restaurant in Fenny Stratford was probably the Most Posted About Location in my Facebook group when it first opened! EVERYONE was raving about it from the lovely service to the quality of the food and I have to say, it is a pretty great destination for a takeaway. The food is described as ‘Italian with a Turkish twist’ so expect burgers and sides that are a bit different. The Ottoman Burger is a must-try, as is the Iberico Scotch Egg!
The Green Elephant Café
I absolutely LOVE The Green Elephant Café so I am very happy to see it available for you all on MK Eats. Green Elephant is located in the MK Community Foundation building and is a great destination for those who struggle to find gluten-free or vegan eats. The produce is as locally sourced as possible and the coffee is delicious (honestly they make the best iced latte I’ve ever had!) I would highly recommend the chocolate banana bread which is totally vegan too. It’s off the scale!
Maaya Indian Bar & Kitchen is located in The Hub and is a go-to for many for an Indian takeaway. I love their curries, they are definitely the more flavoursome of the Indian takeaways in Milton Keynes and one for your list for sure.
Oleevo Pizza is one of my favourite pizzas in Milton Keynes. They churn out consistently good wood-fired pizzas that taste really authentic. I’d recommend going big or going home – The 18-inch pizzas are actually better than the 12-inch in my opinion… I like to keep it simple with a margarita but their pepperoni is also good too. You’ll also find tasty sides and salads on the menu if you think you’re going to have enough room!
Ottoman Kitchen in Woburn Sands is a fantastic new Turkish restaurant which I highly recommend. It’s probably my favourite Turkish in Milton Keynes that I’ve tried! It will be available on MK Eats for takeaway. I definitely recommend the Sarma Beyti, it’s absolutely delicious!
Peel Juice Bar
If you need a healthier takeaway lunch, I highly recommend Peel Juice Bar. Located in Milton Keynes Central station, it’s the perfect stop to grab a fresh juice to wake you up! The menu options are all balanced and you’ll find some great plant-based options on there, like the vegan kebab open wrap which I think is better than the meat version!
Pin Petch Thai
Pin Petch is a decent Thai restaurant located in Newport Pagnell. They do great sharing platters for starters and tasty curries. I love the Satay chicken, Penang curry and the mango and duck salad.
Wrap It and Run
If you are after a beast of a brunch and the ultimate hangover cure, look no further than Wrap It and Run! This husband and wife-run business have created the best breakfast wrap you’ll set your eyes on. Using locally sourced ingredients and sauces, these wraps are incredibly filling but so good. And yep, pretty much a full English in a wrap… you’re welcome! Wrap it and Run will be available to order on MK Eats for takeaway and delivery.
How to use MK Eats
MK Eats is available to download for iOS and Android now. You can also order on their website mk-eats.co.uk. For a limited time from the launch date, MK Eats is offering at least 10% off every order!
