I did not prepare myself for HOW MUCH I loved Candles until we bought a house. I love them! And I’m sure I’m not alone. I thought about merging this guide with the home and interiors, but there are so many gorgeous candles out there that I thought they deserved their own guide. Candles feel like they should fall into that category of ‘lazy gifts’ (like a shower gel set, anyone?) but if it’s a slightly lazy gift that is going to get used and fill my home with an amazing scent I am in. So read: BUY ME CANDLES. I can never have enough! These locally made candles are from some really lovely businesses who all offer something a bit different. I think they would be a welcome addition to any home.
My independent Milton Keynes Christmas Gift Guide features independent businesses from Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas to inspire you to shop small this Christmas. There are 12 guides in total for you to peruse, so grab a cuppa, a notebook and start shopping local!
Candles from Independent Businesses in Milton Keynes
Amora Scents
Amora Scents was created in 2021 as a hobby turned business specialising in homemade wax melts products and gift sets made in Milton Keynes. All of the wax melt products are handmade using 100% soy wax and are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and also free from additional colourants, glitter or microplastics which can be harmful to the environment. They use a high ratio of fragrance oil to provide a strong and long-lasting scent compared to your typical store-bought candle and wax products. The range of products includes customisable gift sets of different sizes, allowing you to choose from a range of 21 scents.
The customisable Luxury Gift Box allows you to assemble the perfect gift for someone special. You can build your gift box by choosing a large wax melt burner and four wax melt clamshells with any choice of scents.
Free local delivery is available for all Milton Keynes residents – Shop via Amora’s website.

Designed to help relax, soothe and energise your home and home, and the perfect safer option for households with pets and children. All products are lovingly hand-poured in Buckinghamshire with an exo conscious and vegan-friendly ethos. I love these candles – they are made with a wood wick which gives that lovely fire-cracking feeling. Carly also offers refills once your candle is done so there’s no need to waste the jars.
Candles start at £7 for a small candle, to £24.95 for a triple wick. Shop via Carly’s Candle Company website.

Tam Creative Living
Tam Creative Living is a candle and art studio that combines scent and style. Tam’s candles are small paintings and pieces of art hand-painted, unique, inspired by nature, colour and all things beautiful! I love the jars because they are something you can reuse after the candle is finished.
Tam’s ethos is to make your world a colourful, rich and stylish place where you can also thrive and feel special, content and relaxed enjoying the colours of nature and scents that remind you of special places and moments in your life. As well as being stunning, the candles are sustainable and designed with the planet in mind.
Shop the soy scented candles (£32) online via Tam Creative Living’s website.
Scent & Seed
Scent & Seed candles are hand-poured in the heart of Buckinghamshire. They are vegan friendly and made with soy wax. I love these candles because once the candle has burned down, you can use the pot as a plant pot (or something else!) so it stays in your home and can be enjoyed for longer.
Outhouse
Outhouse creates bespoke furniture using reclaimed wood. They make desks, dining tables, vanity units, shelving and more!
New for 2021 is Outhouse’s candles. The scents are more masculine and appealing to men in your life (though I do love a musky scent…) The candles are available in three scents: Coffee & Rum, Oak & Musk and Honey & Tobacco.
You can purchase from outhouse-byhand.com or buy in person at The Indie Collective in Midsummer Place.

Upcycle Studio x White Wick Candles
Upcycle Studio is a homeware brand that uses reclaimed items to make beautiful products. For the festive season, Francesca has collaborated with local business, White Wick Candles to create these gorgeous soy wax candles in reclaimed jars. Each one is different! They come in two scents – Yule and Mulled Cider. They’re £12 each and they are beautiful!
