Brunch at Store Street Expresso, Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury brunch stop

My social life currently seems to be moving closer and closer to London at the moment… I have several friends who live there so I tend to find myself down there at least two weekends a month. Last weekend I popped down on the Saturday for catch up with my friend Michael, and his girlfriend Lucy. Lucy had posted a photo a few weeks before on her Instagram of some amazing looking pancakes, which turned out to be at Store Street Expresso. So I reluctantly said yes when this was suggested…

Store Street Expresso has a few branches in London, but we went to the one on Tavistock Place in Bloomsbury. I walked past it twice because I was looking for a big sign that said ‘store street expresso’, but it said ‘Continental Stores’ instead. That’s a useful heads up there so you aren’t walking around Bloomsbury looking for something that doesn’t exist…

Store Street Expresso has a very relaxed, coffee shop vibe. They offer a small selection of breakfasts and drinks which you order at the bar. I believe their menu changes every so often which means that no two visits will be the same! Michael had poached eggs and avocado on toast from the ‘on toast’ section of the menu. A breakfast of perfectly poached eggs that you cannot go wrong with…

Lucy and I had to go for the pancakes. After all, that was the only reason I’d come to London, right? Lucy said they sometimes do a summery berry pancake, but that weekend’s offering was pear pancakes, which I’m sure were equally wonderful. It was a stack of three American style pancakes with chai poached pear, mascarpone, honey and walnuts. This was the dream. The whole thing was quite sweet, but the pancakes and walnuts added a savoury element. It really filled me up too. Brunch makes me so happy.

The service was great – the food came pretty quickly. I guess it wasn’t too busy at 10 am on a Saturday morning but still! I’ll definitely be heading back here when I’m back in London. It’s about a ten-minute walk from Euston or Kings Cross St. Pancras, so an ideal stop for food and a coffee if you’re swinging by London for the day.
