When life gives you lemons

When life gives you lemons…

…you make lemonade, right?

Life has thrown some pretty rotten lemons at me in the last two months, hence my absence on my blog and social media. I wish I could tell you all the full story as to why I’ve not been around, but it’s one of those stories best kept to myself and to those closest to me, who know exactly who they are.

I’ve felt all the feelings in the last few months. I’ve been really, really low at some points I never thought I’d get back up again. I thought I’d got my fair share of shit-ness before Christmas with my bouts of anxiety, but just when I thought I was picking myself up again, smack.

They say it’s one of life’s big lessons, heartbreak. And I’ve had my hearts been broken. Big time. And boy has it been the biggest learning curve. It’s the most bizarre thing isn’t it? That someone that was such a huge part of your life can become a stranger in a moment.

So, when life gives you lemons and you fall down so hard you never ever think you’re going to get back up again, it’s okay to spend a week in bed. It’s okay to spend a week crying, feeling like the world has ended and it’s okay to feel like life is never going to be okay again.

When life gives you lemons, never let anyone make you feel less than your worth. Surround yourself with people who want to bring you back up again, surround yourself with people who make you feel warm inside, who make you glow.

When life gives you lemons its okay to ignore it all, to keep yourself so busy you don’t give it the time of day. In fact, keep yourself busy for every minute of every day. See friends, drink, dance, laugh, cry. Tire yourself out so you can sleep at night.

When life gives you lemons, its okay to hate someone. Its okay to let yourself be angry.

When life gives you lemons, love yourself. Take yourself out for lunch, buy yourself some tulips, have a bubble bath. Learn to be alone. You are the only person who can make yourself feel better.

When life gives you lemons take every day as it comes. Cry when you feel like crying, but laugh when you feel like laughing.

When life gives you lemons, cling onto the highs for as long as you can so you can use them to help you get out of the lows.

When life gives you lemons, know you will be okay in the end. Know that a month, six months, a year from now you will be okay.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Pick yourself up, learn, grow, forgive (or don’t) and forget.

  1. Oh Sophie I’m sorry! I can exactly remember the day this happened to me and I got so sick i had to go to the hospital with a trench disease (they said it happens when you stop eating and experience stress the way they did in war). Really wish I just made a lemonade haha. It will take ages but eventually you’ll look back and be grateful it’s happened because I’m sure if I hadn’t experienced that I’d be a totally different person and wouldn’t appreciate what I have now. Go and get yourself something pretty, cry a lot and definitely don’t forgive if you’re not feeling it xxx

Sorry to hear sophie! I too have had some seriously rotten lemons thrown at me the last year also. After a conon of lying and cheating men, and being dropped countless times out of no where, without an explanation, I felt like nothing less than dog shit, I convinced myself I was ublovable as a result of the cowardless actions of another…completely lost myself each time, and then bam, I pulled through again (with the help of some amazing friends). As awfully cheesy as it sounds, it’s so important to relealise that love exists in all forms, platonic love is the reason i’m not still balling my eyes out in my bedroom! No words can describe how heart ache feels, but i’m glad you shared this, we are so much less alone than we think! Big love! X

Aw I’m sorry to hear about this Sophie! I’ve been where you are, exactly a year ago from now I felt the same and I felt as though I’d never be the same again. Time has a way of changing so much and most importantly healing us. Friends, family, and self-care are the most important I think during times like these. I hope you do feel better soon, it’s okay to feel everything out and be sad too!

Sending light & love your way,
    My Lovelier Days
