Independent Milton Keynes Christmas Gift Guide: Gifts for Kids

I don’t have kids myself, so this gift guide is always the hardest to put together! That said, I love buying gifts that are slightly different for my nephews and friends’ children. This Christmas gift guide has some very sweet ideas from local businesses that children will treasure, from drawing their own Christmas jumper to beautiful prints to fun crafts.

My independent Milton Keynes Christmas Gift Guide features independent businesses from Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas to inspire you to shop small this Christmas. There are 12 guides in total for you to peruse, so grab a cuppa, a notebook and start shopping local!

By Claire

Milk and cookie for Santa? Check! Carrot for Rudolph? Check! Christmas Eve mat but classy?! Double check! This Dear Santa mat is made from Jesmonite and finished with gold, rose gold or silver metallic paint to help send Santa on his way in style.

By Claire is a trained stage production manager and runs a business in her spare time. She creates all the design ideas, markets the business, branding, admin, creating and packaging… A familiar story for many small business owners I’m sure!

Shop the Dear Santa Mat (£25) on Claire’s website.

Duck Egg Baby

Duck Egg Baby is a new business selling wonderfully curated baby gift boxes. Each box is packed to the brim with soft, practical and high-quality products, including some of the softest baby clothing, a cuddly toy, an age-appropriate book, a bib and some treats for the adult. Their signature boxes (and optional personalised messages) are perfect for gifting and guaranteed to be loved by both baby and parents.

As a lover of yellow, the ‘Sunshine Box’ (£79.99) is a very cute collection of goodies to brighten someone’s day. Shop the range on Duck Egg Baby’s website.

Hey Ray Bespoke

I absolutely adore these gorgeous muslins and crochet rattles from Hey Ray Bespoke, based in Bedford. They would make such lovely gifts for a new mum and a little one that are still super cute but practical! (My mum was never without a Muslin cloth!) We bought our niece a rattle and muslin last year and a year on she is still looking super cute with them!

Shop Hey Ray via Etsy.

Just Take The Picture

You might recognise Jenny from The Outdoors Mum, a local blog which I love (despite not having any kids in tow!) In 2021, she launched her photography business, ‘Just Take The Picture’.

Jenny is an outdoor family and adventure photographer. Her unique explorer packages allow time for children and families to walk, explore and play in a private wood just outside of Newport Pagnell whilst she captures beautiful shots. Jenny’s ethos is to live in the moment and just take the picture! She believes that by allowing children and families to fully relax into their countryside environment, she can capture the best, happiest memories and images to cherish forever.

This would be a great gift idea for a family to enjoy together. Packages start from £75 for three edited images sent via a secure online gallery. Buy vouchers from Jenny’s website.

Kirstie Watson

Kirstie Watson is a local children’s author and storyteller and last year, I purchased my nephew some of her lovely books! I’m super excited because this year, she has published seven children’s picture books – many of which are frequent Amazon best-sellers. She writes stories of fun, friendship, bravery, tenacity and self-love – all brought spectacularly to life through beautiful, vibrant illustrations. They make the perfect gift for young bookworms aged 3+.

Little Prints Charming

This animal alphabet print from Wolverton-based Little Prints Charming is just SO cute. There’s a numbers one too and both of these prints would make such a lovely addition to a jungle-themed nursery. The print is available as pictured or you can request it in a variety of colours and sizes. Name prints are also available which make lovely gifts.

Find more and shop via Little Prints Charming’s website.

Olive & Pip

Olive & Pip is a fabulous local biz that turns your kid’s artwork into fun stuff like t-shirts, bags and cushions. You could turn your favourite drawing into a t-shirt for your kids or would make a lovely gift for grandparents or parents to turn little ones’ drawings into something that they can treasure forever.

Shop Olive and Pip via Etsy.

Shrimp & Doodle

Shrimp & Doodle is a new, independently owned gifts, crafts and stationery shop at Brooklands Square. It’s kid heaven and there are LOADS of bright, fun gifts for crafty kids. There is a ‘Pocket Money’ table which would be a great place to start for stocking fillers, and there’s also a ‘Kidpreneur’ table which features items made by local kids and they get 100% of the money. It’s such a fun shop and they host craft workshops etc too.

Find Shrimp and Doodle in Brooklands Square.

I hope that this Christmas gift guide gives you some inspiration for gifts for kids and that it inspires you to shop local this festive season. I’d love to know what businesses you support this year – Make sure you let them know who sent them your way!

Will you be buying any of these lovely gifts this year? Happy shopping!
