Just after Easter, I took the plunge and switched up my hair quite a bit, from brassy blonde highlights to soft balayage. I loved the transformation and the lower maintenance of a style where roots are part of it all! I was invited to have my hair done at Nicky Clarke Birmingham which is in the Mailbox. Luxury British heritage brand Nicky Clarke are renowned for their high quality, tailored service. If there’s any beauty treatment I will always invest in, it’s my hair and I love popping into the hairdressers for a few hours to come out feeling like a different person.
After an initial consultation and patch test, I headed in for my appointment. It coincided perfectly with my Grad Ball being the following week. Colette was my colourist and was really lovely. She talked me through exactly what she was going to do with my hair which puts anyone’s mind at ease when opting for colour! She decided that the roots needed cooling down slightly as the colour I had put on initially had turned a bit ginger. I also wanted the blonde balayage lifted a bit more for summer and to be brighter so she added some highlights in there too. Colette ‘painted’ the whole head of colour freehand using a paddle which helped to create a more natural effect. My favourite part of the hairdressers is definitely the endless cups of tea you’re offered throughout the time there …
After about half an hour of the colour on my head, they washed the colour out and it was treatment time! First, they put a toner on my hair for about five minutes which helped to lift and brighten the existing blonde I had. Then, I had an Olaphlex treatment popped on to deeply condition the hair and bring it back to health. This was left on for about ten minutes.
Emer was cutting and styling my hair. As I had only had it cut about six weeks ago, it wasn’t in desperate need of a cut so she just tidied up the ends and trimmed the layers around my face. I opted for a more blunt cut this time as I really love how it looks when it’s curled or straight. I wish Emer could blow dry my hair every day for me … I can never get it as voluminous as when I’m at the hairdressers! Emer blow dried it and then curled it into loose waves.
Ta-Dah! I was so so happy with the finished result, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever left the hairdressers more happy than I did at Nicky Clarke. The blonde really was in need of a bit of a refresh and lift, which the toning treatment did perfectly. The conditioning treatment also restored my hair to softness and health for a good week or two afterwards. I’m also really pleased with the root colour as it’s really close to my natural colour. Yay for low maintenance hair!
Overall, I’d highly recommend stopping by at Nicky Clarke Birmingham for your next hair shake up. The personalised service is fantastic and you feel incredibly comfortable throughout the appointment. I’m a bit gutted that I’ve actually now left Birmingham, but perhaps I’ll end up travelling back there if they’re so good at doing my hair ….
